A lone gunman shot a Philadelphia police sergeant, an officer from the University of Pennsylvania, and four civilians on Friday night around 11:20 p.m. One of the civilians, a 25-year-old woman, died Saturday morning of her injuries, police said. She was shot seven times in the torso by the gunman. According to Police Commissioner Richard Ross, a letter found at the scene of the shooting believed to be by the suspect was filled with rants about hating police officers and listed a parole officer as a target. The unnamed suspect allegedly walked up to Sergeant Sylvia Young’s police car and began shooting at the officer. She was shot eight times. He was then chased by other officers in the area and shot four civilians while fleeing—a man and woman in a bar and a man and woman sitting in a car. After being followed into an alley, he shot University of Pennsylvania Officer Eddie Miller. In the alley he was also shot and killed by police. Both wounded officers are now awake and talking.
