The reigning women’s champion of the annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island has been dethroned. Two-time defending champion Sonya Thomas lost her title on Friday to 28-year-old Miki Sudo of Las Vegas, who devoured 34 hot dogs in 10 minutes. 47-year-old Thomas, a South Korea native now living in Virginia, ate only 27 ¾ franks and buns, a paltry amount compared to the record-setting 45 hot dogs she ate last year. Joey "Jaws" Chestnut won his eighth consecutive contest in the men’s division by eating 61 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Shortly beforehand, he also proposed to his longtime girlfriend on the event stage. She said yes!
