2015 has broken the historical record for most high-intensity cyclones in the Northern Hemisphere. There have been 21 category four or five tropical storms, beating the record of 18 in 2014. The prolonged oceanic warming of El Niño has helped fuel these recurring climate events. The Pacific Ocean alone has incurred its most major storms in the last 20 years.
