The bodies of 21 babies-some of them in "medical waste" bags-have washed ashore the Guangfu river in eastern China, the Associated Press reports. Some of the babies had medical tags attached, which indicates they were a few months old. Others were newborns traced back to Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical College, in Jining, Shandong province. Local people found the bodies under a bridge over the weekend, and firefighters helped recover them Monday. Thirteen bodies remain unidentified, and whether they were boys or girls has not been reported, but the rest had tags listing the mother, birthdates, and measurements. Three were admitted in critical condition. Hospital staff were suspended in the wake of the discovery, and the incident is under investigation.
