At least 22 Alabama counties were still denying marriage licenses to gay couples Monday, despite a Supreme Court ruling Friday that found a constitutional right to same-sex marriage. “It’s perplexing to me that they are not able to do their job,” said the state’s only openly gay lawmaker, Patricia Todd. “Unfortunately, I think it’s probably going to continue until one gets sued and thousands of taxpayer dollars are spent on a lawsuit they are going to lose.” Counties in other states, including Louisiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky, are also refusing to comply with the court’s mandate.
