22-Year-Old Mother Dead After Falling Down NYC Subway Stairs

Her 1-year-old, who was with her at the time, survived.

A 22-year-old mother died Monday night after falling down subway stairs in midtown Manhattan while carrying her 1-year-old in a stroller, NBC4 reports Tuesday. Malaysia Goodson was discovered unconscious at the 7th Avenue subway station at about 8 p.m. ET Monday night and was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her daughter, Rhylee, was unharmed, and is now staying with her father. NBC4 notes that there is no elevator in the station, and the only escalator was running in the other direction. Authorities aren’t yet sure if Goodson slipped or suffered some kind of medical emergency. The MTA decried Goodson’s death as “a heartbreaking tragedy,” and promised that “the MTA, medical examiner's office and NYPD are conducting a full investigation.”
