280,000 Jobs Added in May

GOOD NEWS!

And more people looking for work.

The U.S. economy added 280,000 jobs in May and the unemployment rate ticked up to 5.5 percent as more people resumed the search for work. Thanks to the tightening labor market, hourly wages in the private sector rose 0.3 percent. The newest numbers add to the confusion over whether a 0.7 percent contraction in the economy earlier this year was the forebearer of a larger trend or just an anomaly.
