Three defendants in a Moscow courthouse were shot dead on Tuesday after allegedly attacking their guards and trying to escape. Officials said five others were wounded in the attempt. Five handcuffed men were allegedly being escorted by two guards at the Moscow Regional Court when the shooting started, ahead of a court hearing. Three guards were injured in the violence and taken to a local hospital. The men on trial were accused of terrorizing motorists in Moscow in 2014 by placing spikes on the roads and then shooting the victims who exited their vehicles. They are charged with 17 murders and two attempted murders.
