Continued demand for steel from the ruins of the first World Trade Center from exhibits and memorials means that only 30 pieces now remain in a John F. Kennedy Airport hangar, along with another 70 objects that include clothes and toys. Recovery workers brought in a total of 840 pieces of steel from the Trade Center site, some of which were later cut up to make a total of 2,200. The steel is now being displayed across the U.S. and in eight foreign countries. Thirty applications are still pending approval.
