Australian authorities rescued 37 people stranded on an icebreaker ship after it ran aground in Antarctica, officials said Friday. Expedition members of the Aurora Australis were ferried to the Mawson research station after weather conditions improved, the Australian Antarctic Division reported. There are 31 crew members who are still on board to attempt to refloat the vessel, officials said. The Aurora Australis was carrying out marine research before it broke free from its mooring lines during a blizzard Wednesday. No fuel has been spilled. Rescued crew members are expected to be flown to the Casey research station and will return home in the coming days, the AAD said.
