Landslides and flooding in Chile’s capital, Santiago, have caused major contamination in the water supply, effectively cutting off clean water access to 4 million people. At least three people have reportedly been killed in the landslides, while another 19 are declared missing. “Emergency teams are working on the ground to connect with isolated persons and re-establish the water supply wherever possible,” Chilean President Michelle Bachelet said on Twitter. The local water company says its repair work has been hampered by nonstop rain. Nearly two-thirds of Santiago residents were without running water on Sunday.
