At least 42 cartel members were killed in a three hour-long gunfight with federal forces in the Mexican state of Michoacan on Friday. A police officer also died in the gunfight, which reportedly began after cartel members opened fire on a police convoy. “Thanks to the training and equipment of the federal forces that participated in the actions, there were no more dead or wounded during the clash,” Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido said in a statement on Friday, adding that the total casualty toll may rise. Three more gunmen were detained.
