Predominantly Christian areas were the targets of attacks that killed at least 42 people and injured 84 others across Iraq Wednesday. 27 were killed when a car bomb exploded near a church in the southern part of Baghdad where people were leaving a Christmas celebration. In a marketplace in another majority-Christian area, three roadside bombs went off in a row killing 11. Two police officers and one soldier were also killed when a gunman opened fire on a police and army checkpoint near Tikrit, the capital of the northern central province Salahudin. Christians have been the targets of recurrent attacks since the U.S. and allies invaded in 2003.
