44 Fake Pot Overdoses in New Hampshire

STATE OF EMERGENCY

Since Monday.

New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan has declared a state of emergency after 44 people recently overdosed on a brand of synthetic marijuana. “Smacked!” is legally sold in stores a kind of potpourri, though it is engineered to mimic the effects of marijuana. Users smoke it or brew it in tea to approximate the effects of cannabis. Since Monday, 41 people have overdosed in Manchester (20 of them were hospitalized) and another three overdosed in Concord. Police are now working to pull the bubblegum-flavored substance from stores.
