At least 45 people died Monday in clashes between Tunisian forces and militant assailants, the North African country said. Fighting took place in the town of Ben Guerdane, near the Libyan border, and came at a time when Tunisian officials fear a spillover of extremist violence from the chaos-embroiled neighboring country. In response to the attack—which reportedly killed 28 alleged extremists, seven civilians (including a 12-year-old girl), and 10 members of Tunisian security forces—the country shut down its border with Libya.
