48 Hours Backstage at New York Fashion Week

No Rest

Backstage at NYFW the models text while waiting to strut the catwalk. Makeup and hair gets done. VIPs and celebrities are bused in. And the champagne never stops flowing.

As any PR girl will tell you, NYFW is a marathon fueled by Adderall and Parliament Lights. And after 48 hours backstage at Milk Studio’s Made Fashion Week, I could have used one of each.

Between the Lexus VIP lounge and the hair and makeup stations there’s a lot of energy in the air. Like Adderall, this energy makes you forget you’re tired and puts you to work. The atmosphere, however, is not as hectic as one would think. Everyone seems to be in the same busy-but-focused trance. It’s less half-naked models running around and more fully-clothed models with curlers in their hair texting, waiting to walk the runway for fashion favorites such as Adam Selman and Chromat.

The backstage staff is a well-oiled machine specializing in busing through celebrities and other international cool people without much incident. Models and VIPs file in and then out, and before you know it its time to start all over again.

Makeup. Hair. Champagne. Rinse. Repeat.
