49er Suspected of Sex Assault Released

Defensive lineman Ray McDonald.

Just hours after local law enforcement announced they were investigating San Francisco 49ers lineman Ray McDonald, the team announced they are releasing him. "This is about a pattern of poor behavior," Trent Baalke, the team's GM, said Wednesday. "We expect a lot from our players, hold them accountable for their actions.” The current sexual assault investigation is the second time in recent months the athlete has been the subject of a police investigation. He had been arrested on August 31 for domestic violence, but due to conflicting versions, a lack of verifiable witnesses, and a lack of cooperation by the alleged victim, his fianceé, charges were never filed.
