The Daily Beast dove deep into Melania Trump’s calendar and exposed the first lady’s unprecedented aversion to public appearances throughout her husband’s second presidential term in a blistering report on Sunday.
Here are the most pressing takeaways from the Beast’s analysis of the first lady’s shockingly low workload:
1. Melania has been seen in public just 38 days this year
The first lady has appeared in public this year as often as her husband Donald Trump has played golf—38 days. That includes being photographed, not just attending official events.
The last time she was seen publicly was when she attended the FIFA World Cup final with the president on July 19 in New Jersey.
The Beast’s analysis found that Melania has participated in an official event or has been publicly photographed an average of just once every six days in 2026.
2. Her public schedule nearly vanished this summer
Melania made only five public appearances across June and July—two of which were sporting events. That averages out to an appearance roughly once every 12 days.
She also skipped out on several high-profile occasions, including the dignified transfer of U.S. soldiers killed by Iran on July 22, the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner on July 24, and Sen. Lindsey Graham’s funeral on July 28.
Outside of the World Cup final, the only other day in July that she was seen publicly was Independence Day.
3. She is dramatically less active than other contemporary first ladies
Melania’s dearth of activity as first lady marks her as the least hardworking of the millennium.
Melania has delivered 29 speeches since her husband returned to office last year. For comparison, Michelle Obama gave 130 speeches over a similar period, meaning Melania has delivered only about 22 percent as many speeches as Michelle did.
Jill Biden, who also taught full time in addition to her duties as first lady, gave 43 speeches within the same time period as Melania—meaning she does about two-thirds as many speeches as Jill. Melania has also given only half the number of speeches that Jill did during the first seven months of her second year in the White House.
4. She rarely leaves Washington anymore
About 80 percent of Melania’s public appearances have been in Washington, according to the Beast’s analysis. Outside of D.C., Melania appeared just twice in New York, once in North Carolina, once in Maryland, once in Delaware, once in Florida, and once in New Jersey.

Three of her public appearances—including one radio appearance—were to promote her documentary, Melania, which earned her a whopping $10.71 million in personal profit.
Laura Bush visited all 50 states and more than 75 countries during her tenure as first lady. Michelle also visited every state during her tenure, and Jill’s office said she visited more than 40 states during her husband’s single term as president.
5. Her second term is even quieter than her first
It’s a dramatic drop from Trump’s first presidential term, when Melania appeared publicly on more than 140 days during the first 18 months of Trump 1.0.
In the same period of 18 months, Melania has maintained only 60 percent of the public workload she did during her husband’s first term. However, she is still more active in 2026 than she was in 2025, when she appeared 47 times following the president’s inauguration on Jan. 20.
