A new letter signed by 50 senior Republican national-security officials warns that Donald Trump is “dangerous” and poses a serious “risk” to American stability and security. Trump “would be the most reckless president in American history,” warned the signatories, including former CIA and NSA director Michael Hayden, former secretaries of homeland security Tom Ridge and Michael Chertoff, as well as former deputy secretary of state Robert Zoellick. All of the participants have worked in Republican administrations, from Richard Nixon to George W. Bush, and all claim to “know the personal qualities required of a President of the United States.” As such, the letter stated, Trump is definitely “not qualified,” partially due to his “lack of knowledge about... the U.S. Constitution, U.S. laws, and U.S. institutions, including religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and an independent judiciary.” The letter did not serve as an outright endorsement of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, however, stating: “None of us will vote for Donald Trump... We also know that many have doubts about Hillary Clinton, as do many of us. But Donald Trump is not the answer.”
