In a new ABC News/Washington Post poll, as many as 53 percent of Americans surveyed said they oppose an assault-weapons ban—the highest opposition ever recorded. Only 45 percent of those surveyed supported a ban. The pollsters contacted 1,002 Americans through landline and cellphone surveys on Dec. 13. The poll also reflected decreasing confidence in the government’s ability to prevent a terror attack.
