As of Wednesday evening, there are seven confirmed fatalities and one person still missing after heavy rain caused historic flooding in the Houston area. The missing person, a man, disappeared after an HFD rescue boat capsized. Between 9 and 11 inches of rain fell in the west and southwest areas of Harris County on Tuesday. While in Houston to survey the damage, Gov. Greg Abbott called this storm and Tropical Storm Allison “the worst two flooding situations that I’ve seen.”
