Torrential rainfall continued to slam South Carolina on Sunday, prompting officials to warn residents to stay in their homes and causing at least seven deaths. “We haven’t seen this level of rain in the Low Country in 1,000 years,” Gov. Nikki Haley told reporters. “That’s how big this is.” The storm dumped more than 18 inches of rain in areas of central South Carolina by early Sunday, while forecasts predicted an additional two to six inches through Monday. Five weather-related deaths, including three fatal traffic accidents, were reported in South Carolina while officials also recorded another two deaths in North Carolina. More than 250 roads across the state remained closed and officials have responded to nearly 1,200 distress calls and more than 300 collisions.
