Eight players on the University of Miami football team will be forced to sit out at least one game for reportedly accepting extra benefits from former booster Nevin Shapiro. A total of 12 players are being asked to repay restitution for the gifts. The harshest penalties were for those players who received gifts while being recruited. Defensive lineman Olivier Vernon will sit out six games, while Ray-Ray Armstrong and Dyron Dye will miss four games each. The sanctions were the first for the Hurricanes, which could face more as the NCAA continues to investigate the school’s compliance practices.
