A 94-year-old former guard at the Auschwitz concentration camp was sentenced to five years in jail on Friday after a four-month trial in Germany. Reinhold Hanning was found guilty of being an accessory to the murder of at least 170,000 people during his SS guard tenure from 1942 to 1944. Hanning has admitted to being aware of the mass executions that occurred at the camp, but that he did nothing to stop it. Auschwitz was located in southern Poland and housed the killing of about 1.1 million people, mostly European Jews.
