A Real Piece of Work

If you’re feeling burned out at the office, here’s a book that will make you appreciate your pain a little bit more. Alain de Botton’s new book, The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work, offers musings on the culture and psychology of work, which The Daily Mail calls “winningly haphazard.” Botton explores the loneliness of man, the atmosphere of the office place, the culture of self-employment. Botton concludes that work “essentially exists to keep our minds off the futility of life and the inevitability of extinction.”
