Just in time for Rome’s summer tourist influx, a stolen Renoir will finally return home. Venice police announced Wednesday that a painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, which had disappeared from a Roman household 15 years ago, has resurfaced. And despite its French origins, the painting depicts a mythical Roman scene. “We carried out all verifications…” a police spokesperson said. “We don’t know the value but it must be pretty high because Renoir did not paint that many mythical scenes.”
