Community activists and celebrities from across the country have teamed up to offer a $60,000 reward to help find the person who fatally shot a 7-year-old Houston girl over the weekend, ABC 13 reports. Activist Shaun King tweeted Wednesday that “some promising leads” have come in about the slaying of Jazmine Barnes, who was shot to death Sunday while sitting with her mother and sisters in her family’s vehicle. Police have said a white man in his 40s driving a red truck pulled up to the family's vehicle and opened fire in an "unprovoked" attack. Actress Gabrielle Union also took to Twitter Wednesday to demand that the attacker be held to account, blasting out, “Find him! This evil monster must be stopped!” Barnes’s mother, Laporsha Washington, who was released from the hospital Tuesday after being treated for a gunshot wound to the arm, said she is grateful for the support. “I’m loving that the community is getting together and everybody is raising money and a reward has been put out," she told ABC 13. "I’m in a lot of pain but as far as everything else, like I say, I’m just taking it one day at a time and I’m doing my best. I love how everybody is just pitching together and doing what they can do to put my child to rest at peace.” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told reporters Wednesday that they are still vetting tips, but none so far are enough to break the case.
