Dame June Whitfield, who delighted television audiences for eight decades has died at the age of 93. The comedic actress starred in the British sitcoms Terry And June and Absolutely Fabulous, and had roles in the Carry On films. She was well known for playing the mother of Jennifer Saunders' character Edina Monsoon in Absolutely Fabulous, and for playing the starring role in Agatha Christie's Miss Marple. Whitfield was made a dame in 2017 for her services to drama and entertainment in a career that began in the 1940s. Her agent said on Saturday that she “passed away peacefully” on Friday night.
