It's a bigger miracle than Cousin It's bizzare hair growth: The Addams Family, the musical, is actually making money, a whopping $851,000 in ticket sales last weekend plus a $15 million sales advance, remarkable for any Broadway musical, let alone one that garnered such a D.O.A. critical response—Stagegrade.com gave the show a median grade of D+ based on 26 major reviews. The New York Times suspects that the show has cracked the formula: take a brand-name star like Nathan Lane, add "an inoffensive script, echoes of nostalgia and some savvy commercial judgments" and presto-change-o, it's a hit.
