An Afghan family was attacked by gunmen after refusing to give their daughter away in marriage, officials told Reuters on Wednesday. Breaking into the family’s home in the northern city of Kunduz, the gunmen beat the father and poured acid over both parents and their three children. The attack occurred weeks after their eldest daughter, 18-year-old Mumtaz, had turned down a local troublemaker’s proposal and got engaged to a relative. All five family members are being treated at a Kunduz hospital.
