Eight representatives from the Taliban will meet with Afghan government officials in Qatar at a two-day regional conference that begins Sunday. A statement from the Taliban said the goal of their participation in the open discussion was to “personally deliver the message of its oppressed nation and other such issues to the world.” The statement added that the Taliban’s participation “should not be misconstrued as peace or negotiation talks.”
