Lebanon will likely allow Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to visit its border with Israel, despite American efforts to convince Beirut to disinvite the controversial leader. The U.S. says Ahmadinejad’s visit to the Shiite-majority area, which is a stronghold of Hezbollah, could incite serious violence. The Iranian leader will reportedly throw stones through the fence toward Israel; he’ll also visit Qana, in order to lay wreaths on the graves of people killed by Israelis, and Bint Jbeil, which saw much of the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah four years ago. Ahmadinejad has said the Holocaust was overblown to gin up support for Israel and that the country shouldn’t exist.
