Ai Weiwei, the dissident Chinese artist, has accepted a job as a visiting lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2012, but will the Chinese government allow him to accept it? He tells The New York Times he’s not sure and is not too hopeful, since the university “shows strong support for my moral position.” News of the job offer came as another prominent Chinese dissident, the writer Liao Yiwu, turned up in Berlin after secretly fleeing China.
