The Air Force has grounded all C-130 planes with firefighting capabilities after one of them crashed while attempting to subdue a blaze in South Dakota on Sunday night, injuring or killing an undisclosed number of its North Carolina Air National Guard crew. About 36 C-130 aircraft of this type will be affected, dealing a blow to authorities’ efforts to subdue wildfires currently raging in Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and it is unknown how long it will be before the fleet is again deemed airworthy.
