Assailants who fatally stabbed a gay-rights activist and another man were allegedly working on behalf of al Qaeda, the AP reports. Ansar-al Islam claimed responsibility for the action in a Twitter message, calling it a “blessed attack.” Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said he would find and prosecute the men responsible for Monday night’s killings. The activist victim was identified as USAID worker Xulhaz Mannan and his friend, the theater performer Tanay Majumder. Secretary of State John Kerry called the murders “barbaric.”
