Al Shabaab forces attacked a peacekeeping base in Somalia on Thursday, near Mogadishu's international airport. Al Shabaab claimed it killed 14 people in an attack on an African Union peacekeeping base. "Our fighters have entered AU's Halane base by force through the gate and now fighting is going on inside the base," said an al Shabaab spokesman. The Somali Islamic militant group tends to exaggerate casualties, and there are conflicting reports regarding the total deaths. AU forces said they regained control of the base after killing all of the eight attacking militants. The base was declared "safe and under control" by the AU mission (Amisom) after several hours of gunfire.
