The University of Alabama is currently ranked No. 1 in college football, but it's satellite school located in Birmingham is shutting down its football program. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) announced Tuesday it would shutter the program after this year's mediocre season (6-6) and financial instability. The lack of a campus stadium has added to its inability to create a fan base the past two decades. Coach Bill Clark hinted at the possibility on Sunday. The last Football Bowl Subdivision school to shutter its football program was Pacific in 1995.
