Joyce Garrard, the grandmother of 9-year-old Savannah Hardin, was convicted Friday of capital murder for “punishing” the little girl for eating chocolate on the school bus by forcing her to run for close to three hours until she collapsed. Hardin died days later at a hospital as a result of dehydration and low sodium. Savannah’s stepmother, Jessica Mae Hardin, has also been charged with capital murder for failing to intervene.
