A 17-year-old female high school student in Birmingham, Alabama, was killed Wednesday and another student was injured in what police are describing as an accidental school shooting. The incident at Huffman High School, which occurred shortly after dismissal time as students were leaving, prompted a temporary lockdown. The circumstances behind the shooting remain unclear, but Birmingham police Chief Orlando Wilson said the incident was so far being viewed as accidental. A gun was reportedly recovered from inside the high school but no further details were available about who is believed to have fired the weapon. The student who was killed, identified in local media reports as Courtlin Arrington, was reportedly about to turn 18 and had already been accepted into college.
