British film star Albert Finney died Friday at the age of 82 following a short battle with illness, The Guardian reports. Finney was well-known as one of the stars of Britain’s early new wave cinema in the 1960s, he later appeared in international classics including Annie, Erin Brockovich, Skyfall and the Jason Bourne series. He was nominated five times for an Oscar, but never won. He also turned down two honors from the British government—a CBE, and a knighthood. It’s not clear how he died but The Guardian notes that in 2011, he revealed that he had beaten kidney cancer.
