In an effort to dismiss a defamation suit filed against him by families of those killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Infowars host Alex Jones compared himself to famed Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. “Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein relied on allegations from ‘Deep Throat’ to link the Nixon administration to the Watergate break-in,” lawyers for the frequent conspiracy-theory proponent wrote in a dismissal motion. “Such journalism, questioning official narratives, would be chilled if reporters were subject to liability if they turned out to be wrong,” Families of some of the 26 people fatally shot at the school in 2014 are suing Jones for calling the shooting a “hoax.” They claim that Jones’ followers harassed them and sent them death threats after he questioned the shooting’s veracity on his show. Jones admitted to calling the shooting a hoax, but said he now believes that it is real.
