Emmy-winning actor Alexander Skarsgård has horrified fans with his eccentric red-carpet shoe choice.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, the 50-year-old Swedish actor attended the London Film Festival screening of his latest film, romantic comedy Wicker.
For the event, Skarsgård wore a golden Saint Laurent suit with no undershirt.
He finished off the look with transparent PVC dress shoes from the French luxury brand, a choice that fans quickly slammed as “horrible” and “freaky.”

“Who needs eyes? I don’t want mine anymore,” one person remarked under Entertainment Tonight’s Instagram post about the outfit.

The post, which featured a close-up of Skarsgård’s plastic shoes, gained over 4,000 comments in under 24 hours.

“Oh my God, those shoes must stink between plastic and sweat,” one fan wrote, while another said, “His pinky toe [is] fighting for its life! We never needed to know that.”

The shoes sparked conversation across different social media platforms.
“I like male feet, and I like Alexander’s feet, but this is utterly disgusting and unsightly,” one person wrote on X.

But some defended the True Blood actor.
One tweet with over 74,000 likes read, “People think the Skarsgårds are attractive simply because they’re tall hot Vikings, but their genuine appeal comes from the fact that somehow every single one of them in their own unique and individual way is a certified freak seven days a week.”
Skarsgård’s father is Good Will Hunting actor Stellan Skarsgård, 75, and his seven siblings include Viking actor Gustaf Skarsgård and It actor Bill Skarsgård.

When the shoes first debuted on the Paris Fashion Week runway in June, commenters expressed their dislike under Saint Laurent’s Instagram post.
“I’m calling the police,” one person wrote.
Others questioned how the style would look when the model’s feet got hot, and the shoes fogged up from the steam.
“They must look fancy with all the sweat and condensation,” one person said. Another mused, “I can’t stop thinking about the smell.”
Designer Anthony Vaccarello defended his design at the show, saying, “I asked myself: ‘Why torture women with plastic shoes, but not men?’”
Similar chatter followed actress Margaret Qualley’s red carpet appearance in August.

The 31-year-old actress paired her black Chanel gown with the brand’s controversial “barefoot” sandals, which covered only her heel, leaving her toes to touch the ground.
Fans deemed the pair “not healthy” for her feet and “unsanitary”—a critique that has carried over to Skarsgård’s footwear.

Skarsgård is known to take fashion risks with his outfits. In May 2025, for example, he caused a commotion when he appeared on TV in tiny shorts.
This was not his first time shocking fans with his footwear, either.
In May 2025, Skarsgård walked the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in over-the-knee leather boots, and in January, he wore sandals to the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
