New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes has reportedly been nominated by fellow players for the 2018 Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award despite his 51-game suspension for allegedly violating the league’s policies on domestic violence. Reyes is said to have received more votes than any other Mets players in a league-wide vote for the award, which honors whoever other players “most respect based on his leadership on the field and in the community.” Reyes was suspended in 2016 for allegedly sending his wife to the emergency room after grabbing her by the throat and throwing her into a door at a Maui hotel. He was never criminally charged for the alleged attack.
