In another sign of the slowly recovering economy, Amazon announced it is hiring 5,000 full-time workers. It also plans to open five more warehouses this year. The hiring and expansion decisions were made to meet growing demand from customers, particularly from Amazon Prime subscribers, who are entitled to unlimited two-day shipping. Amazon last week reported a net loss for the second quarter largely because it invested lots of cash to expand its operations.
