The family of a University of Pennsylvania student who took her own life in 2013 is suing Amazon for allegedly selling the soluble cyanide crystals she used. Arya Singh, a 20-year-old nursing student, was sexually assaulted while she was a freshman by a student who went unpunished by the school and who was allowed to stay in the same dormitory, according to a suit filed by Singh’s mother. Sujata Singh is also suing the school for negligence, claiming that administrators ignored the issues her daughter suffered as a result of the assault, despite a letter from the Department of Education that outlined complications sexual assault victims often face. The 20-year-old’s grades suffered and she was investigated for academic and misconduct investigations. Hours after she was told to vacate the campus in February 2013 because the investigations barred her from registering for classes, she killed herself, according to the lawsuit.
