Amazon is reportedly developing a solution for those of us who aren't at home when the delivery guy shows up with our latest purchase. A source familiar with the project told The Daily that Amazon has built a prototype delivery locker in the back of a Seattle 7-Eleven store, which would allow Amazon customers to pick up their purchases at any hour of the day. The locker functions like an ATM machine: the customer gets an email with a bar code when the package arrives, and then the machine scans the bar code from the customer's smartphone and produces a PIN number. The customer enters the PIN and voilà: the package drops down. If the prototype locker is successful in Seattle, Amazon could build them in 7-Eleven stores across the U.S. Amazon declined to comment on the project.
