The very public divorce battle between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp has taken a graphic turn after Heard alleged that her ecstasy-fuelled husband sliced off the tip of his finger in a jealous rage and used the bleeding digit to scrawl on a wall messages accusing her of cheating on him with actor Billy Bob Thornton.
Thornton has since moved to deny the claim, telling TMZ that the cheating allegation is “completely false.”
The allegations are the latest in what is rapidly becoming an ugly divorce battle, with numerous videos, pictures, and court documents being made available to the entertainment-gossip site since Heard filed for divorce in May, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking $50,000 per month in spousal support from her The Rum Diary co-star, whom she married in February 2015.
In early court pleadings, Heard, sporting a bruised face, declared, “During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me… I endured excessive emotional, verbal, and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating, and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him.”
Just last week, video shot by Heard of Depp stalking around his kitchen banging cupboards and allegedly smashing a wine bottle was released via TMZ. Depp’s people told the site the footage was “heavily edited” and would therefore be inadmissible as evidence.
The latest incident to be publicized (again, Heard’s team are clearly fingered by TMZ as the source) alleges that the piratical Depp made a series of extraordinary daubings on the wall of a villa they were living in last March while he was shooting the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Heard alleges that Depp was “drunk and high on ecstasy,” according to a report on TMZ, which has a graphic picture of the injured finger on its website (which is not safe to view before breakfast).
Although the injury itself reportedly happened accidentally, after Depp allegedly “smashed several bottles and windows and slammed a plastic phone against the wall,” court papers claim that Depp then took his bloody finger and dipped it in blue paint Heard had used for artworks and employed the mixture of the two liquids to write phrases such as “Starring,” “Billy Bob,” and “Easy Amber” on the wall.
Doctors performed a skin graft to repair the damaged finger.
In photos taken a month after the incident, when the pair returned to Australia, Depp and Heard are seen getting off a private jet with his finger wrapped in a scarf.
Aussie paper The Gold Coast Bulletin reported the injury at the time it occurred, saying it happened during a “wild weekend bender” by Depp and friends.
The reporter later said that one of Depp’s bodyguards offered to pay her if she revealed her source.
