Several U.S. allies said Friday they support the U.S. air raid on Syria, including leaders of Israel, France, Italy, the U.K., Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. President Trump’s decision to carry out the airstrikes on a Syrian air base Thursday, in response to this week’s chemical attack, drew ire from Iran and Russia but was widely heralded by various American allies. Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey’s foreign minister, said Assad’s government “must be removed from leading Syria as soon as possible, and the best way to do that is by starting the transitional process.” British Prime Minister Theresa May’s office was informed of the strike in advance and has said the action was “an appropriate response to the barbaric chemical weapons attack launched by the Syrian regime, and is intended to deter further attacks.” Israel was also informed in advance. In a statement early Friday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes on the government-controlled air base “sent a strong and clear message” that “the use and spread of chemical weapons will not be tolerated.”
