Nine people were killed in an attack on a U.S. military base in Kabul on Friday, including an American service member and eight Afghan contractors. Hundreds more NATO service members, foreign contracted civilians and others were wounded, according to NATO spokesman Col. Brian Tribus. The attack followed two massive bombings in the city that killed at least 55. “We strongly condemn the series of insurgent attacks in Kabul,” U.S. State Department spokesperson Mark Toner said in a statement on Saturday.
