Time to close out your tab: America’s oldest continually operating restaurant, the King George II Inn in Bristol, Pennsylvania, has closed its restaurant and bar after 329 years of business. It had survived every economic and political calamity since 1681, but the current recession did it in: “The recession over the past three years has severely hurt the restaurant industry in general and fine dining restaurants in particular. Unfortunately, the King George Inn has not escaped this severe economic downturn,” said owners John and Geri Caparrelli on Wednesday. While the King George II Inn will no longer be the oldest continually operating restaurant, it will continue to rent out rooms, which means it will remain the oldest continually operating inn.
